Terne metal roofing or terne ii coated metal roofing are used where copper roof runoff or corrosion are special concerns. Terne coatings can be applied to carbon and stainless steels. The new material is also coated with zt alloy which reduces the potential for oxidation before painting on the job with rapidri paints. Highly corrosion resistant which makes it an ideal roofing material.

It can also be manufactured with 316l stainless steel when more corrosion resistance is needed. The company was founded in the early 1800 s and had changed hands a number of times since then. Their version of terne is a thick layer of 100 tin covering a 441 grade stainless steel base. Roofinox tin matte terne coated stainless steel is commonly manufactured with type 439 stainless steel coated in both sides with 100 tin unlike the no longer manufactured tcsii.

It offers a soft looking protective patina that develops after exposure to the elements. Other terne coatings using lead can present an environmental contamination worry from lead leachate found in roof runoff. They are usually done on sheet or strip for external cladding roofing flashings etc. The seams are then crimped together on site to seal the system and prevent water penetration.

Tcsii or tcs2 terne coated stainless steel sheet metal is manufactured with type 304 stainless steel coated in both sides with terne alloy 50 tin 50 zinc. When compared to regular stainless steel roofinox 20 softer 4 times more matte much easier to solder and due to the low thermal expansion and the high strength of the material it offers a high level. The patina creates an elegant tin grey surface exposure to the weather leads to the patination process ideal for all roof types including drainage solutions and accessory pieces. Terne is a mild steel with a coating of zinc and tin alloy to protect the steel from rust.
